Factory speakers tend to be very weak, with paper-thin material for the cone and nothing more than a light foam surround. The humidity alone is enough to dry rot the foam on a factory speaker. An aftermarket speaker built with quality materials will reproduce sounds better and last longer. Instead of having a foam surround, an aftermarket speaker will most likely have a rubber surround which will not have the same deterioration. The most common speakers in your average car are in the front doors, rear doors, rear deck, or even quarter panels in the rear.
